I paint people in my narratives

 that often provoke cultural, social, and contemporary issues. As a Korean-American immigrant and a woman, I layer my paintings with themes such as the American Dream, multicultural identities, and gender and socio-political questions. Despite contemporary subjects, I use the means of traditional oil painting techniques. In a world saturated with digital images, I value the labor of painting and my endeavor to elevate candid images of people into classical portraits.
